Full-screen iPlayer web app on an iPad
Even though the BBC’s planned iPhone apps have been postponed for a review, it’s still possible to get full-screen iPlayer video on your iPad, thanks to a neat web app workaround by the BBC. Here’s how to do so.
On your iPad, visit http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/bigscreen:
Tap the “+” icon, and then tap “Add to Home Screen”:
Give the new home screen icon a name (e.g. “BBC iPlayer”), and then tap “Add”:
You’ll now have an icon on your iPad’s home screen for BBC iPlayer:
Tap the icon to launch iPlayer as a full screen web app:
When you play a video, it displays full-screen with auto-hiding controls:
